A Positive Life wins ‘Podcast of the Year’ and ‘Best Factual’ gold at the British Podcast Awards

We had an amazing night at the British Podcast Awards this year, as very unexpectedly A Positive Life: HIV from Terrence Higgins to Today won the gold award in the Best Factual category, and then won Podcast of the Year at the end of the night!

I really hadn’t given much consideration to actually winning anything, so it was amazing to go up on stage for the first award of the night (Best Factual) and then, shockingly, back up at the end for the big award.

What made it very special was the BPAs had arranged for Martyn Butler (one of the founders of the Terrence Higgins Trust, and contributor to our series) and Richard Angell (Chief Executive of the THT) to come on stage and talk about Terry’s legacy, as well as this podcast. They’d also arranged for our presenter Sam Smith to make a video acceptance speech, which they played on the screen behind us.

All of that was a total surprise to us in the production team! So that made the whole thing extra special. I’m really happy that the series has been recognised like this, as it was a huge labour of love and a piece of work that I’m very proud of. I really hope that new people will discover the show, as it gets a bit of renewed attention.

Here’s me, our Assistant Producer Emma Goswell, and Executive Producer Steven Rajam at the awards:
