The Sound of Trans Freedom – Aunt Nell – Sound design and mix
The Sound of Trans Freedom is a project from the fantastic queer audio production company Aunt Nell in collaboration with LSE: https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/lsehistory/2025/09/03/the-sound-of-trans-freedom/
Produced by Tash Walker for Aunt Nell, four trans sound artists respond to letters in the archive of Press For Change, held at LSE Library. Founded in 1992, Press For Change is a formative lobbying group that brought about the Gender Recognition Act.

Tash from Aunt Nell commission sound artists are Jesse Lawson, Kamari Romeo, naafi and Tom Sayers to create pieces in response to different letters from the Press For Change archive. Each artist was sent some letters on a particular theme, and they were free to create whatever they felt inspired to.
Once the commissions were underway, Tash approached me to work on the project too. My role was to compile all the contributions into one piece, add some sound design to tie things together, and do an overall mix on the piece.
I’m really happy I got to make my small contribution to this great project 🙂
Here’s me having a look at some bits from the archive on the launch night at LSE:
